Frequently Asked Questions

How many artists are searchable?

There are currently 1601 Post-War & Contemporary artists and 235 American artists who are searchable.

This is out of a number of approximately 14,523 artists in our database.

Searchable artists are updated after the end of each Auction Cycle.

How do you establish a 'searchable' artist?

For an artist to be searchable, the artist needs to fulfill two basic requirements:

  • At least eight lots were sold at auction.
  • Over three Auction Cycles.

These minimum requirements are in place to ensure that enough data is available to provide relevant answers and insights.

How do I search for an artist?

  1. Log in to Art Auction Analytics.
  2. Click the Artist Search link on the Website menu.
  3. Enter the last name or alias of the artist in the Enter Last Name of artist or the artist’s alias field.
  4. Click the Submit button.
  5. A list will appear of artists whose name fits the criteria you searched on.
  6. Click on the artist’s name you want.
  7. You will be brought to the Market Dashboard page for that artist.

What if I don't know how to spell the artist's last name?

  • In the Enter Last Name field, enter as many letters as you know (at least two letters).
  • A list will appear of artists whose name fits the criteria you searched on.
  • Click on the artist’s name you were searching for.
  • You will be brought to the Market Dashboard page for the artist.

How do I search for an artist if the artist goes by an alias?

Art Auction Analytics collects the alias of artists whose names are unknown:

  1.  In the Enter Last Name field, enter the artist’s alias (e.g.: Banksy).
  2. If the artist is in the database, the artist will be listed.

How do you handle artist collaborations?

Collaborations or artist groups, e.g.: Gilbert & George, Art & Language, or The Connor Brothers are searchable like an artist’s last name.  To search, please use either the alias (e.g.: Gilbert & George) or try searching on either artist’s last name.
